Northern Idaho’s First VR Arcade

Coeur d’Alene, Idaho has joined the growing list of US cities boasting a VR Arcade! VR CDA opened in late February and is located right in the heart of downtown on 115 S 4th St. I had the chance to speak with VR CDA’s owner, Colton Hoffman this week to learn a bit about why he decided to open the arcade and how they’re doing.

Hoffman started his journey with VR working part-time on the weekends over at VR1 Arcade in Eagle, Idaho. When he received notice from his other employer that he was going to be laid off, he decided it was time to go a different direction. He knew he wanted to start a VR arcade. After doing some research, Hoffman decided that Coeur d’Alene was the market he wanted to launch his arcade in. He moved in October of 2017 and by December had found his retail space. Renovations started in January and his family made the trek from Nampa, ID to help. With their assistance he was able to open the doors in late February and has been dialing in operations in preparation for their grand opening celebration on July, 4th.

VR CDA is located in the historic Roxy building, which is rumored to have housed the first movie theater in Idaho. Hoffman is excited to reinvent the space and bring new technology to the community. Leveraging approximately 4,000 square feet, VR CDA will have seven VR stations all operating with HTC Vives. Blending the new with the old, there’s also an area with more traditional arcade games and pool tables. A party room plus small office area round out the space.

So far things are looking very positive for VR CDA. Hoffman says that since day one he has had people showing up to experience VR even with zero advertising. Foot traffic continues to increase and he’s excited to see what the summer and their grand opening have in store for his business.

We look forward to hearing more about VR CDA and their success. For more information and location hours check out their website!
